UL (Underwriters Laboratories)

Earth Glass products successfully passed UL flammability test UL 746A at 100% concentration. Also conducted at 100% concentration were Fourier Transform Infrared Analysis (FTIR) and Ash Content tests. Tests were conducted by UL-approved and registered laboratories. FTIR spectra obtained from two commercially molded High Impact Polystyrene (HIPS) large screen television parts, one molded using 0.5% of Earth Glass product, and one with no Earth Glass product, resulted in “no difference between the spectra of the two samples.”

Based upon the above results, it appears exceedingly unlikely that flammability testing of a ULapproved polymer will be adversely affected by the addition of up to 1.0% of our inert, nonflammable, inorganic material.

If a new additive is introduced to a UL-approved product by a molder, UL regulations require flammability re-testing and UL-FTIR identification. At the polymer manufacturer level, when a processing aid is added to an existing UL-approved polymer at 5% or less by weight, these tests are required to provide the new formulation with the same grade designation as the original material. All other ratings (mechanical, electrical ignition, thermal, etc.) may be assumed as unchanged and no further testing is required.
